My wife and I moved around the country in the 1980's spending time in Milton Keynes and Dunstable before moving and settling in Boston where we opened a BAGSD branch in 1990. I became a member of the BAGSD Executive Committee in 1988 and took on the role of Chairman in 2002 which I still hold today.

During my time with BAGSD I have trained 6 German Shepherd Dogs in Obedience getting as far as the 'B' test. I have also bred several litters of German Shepherds under my own affix gaining a CC and a reserve CC both with dogs I have bred myself. In 1986 I joined the committee the the Bicester branch of BAGSD and was elected Chairman. As chairman I also had to attend the BAGSD Southern Area Council which I have been actively involved in ever since.

In 1989 I became a BAGSD qualified Instructor; following this I became a trainee Director of Training and taking my first school under Doreen Gater in 1997. To plan for the school I created a school plan which has been adopted and adjusted for every school run by BAGSD since. I became the Obedience Supervisor for BAGSD in 2005 at the request of the late Frank Gater.

In 1995 I was elected onto the BAGSD Executive Committee and have been the Vice Chairman for the association over several periods, as this role has rotated amongst its members. I have been involved in representing BAGSD in the acceptance of the clubs from the British Schutzhund Association and the formation of the WUSV Working Group, a joint venture between BAGSD and GSDL, the 2 WUSV (World Union of German Shepherd Clubs) in the UK Managing the adoption of German breed standards by UK breeders and the show community. One of the most significant achievements being the introduction of the British Sieger Show in conjunction with the Breed Council in October 2005 in Sheffield.

Since 1999 I have represented BAGSD at the WUSV meetings held on the Monday following the Sieger Show in Germany and regularly have represented BAGSD at Kennel Club meetings.

I have since succeeded Doreen Gater as the Treasurer of BAGSD. I still actively instruct at Bicester BAGSD Branch every week as well as being its Treasurer. I became a member of BAGSD approximately 20 years ago and have always remained loyal to my local branch Walsall. As a family we enjoyed our Sunday morning visits, my son went on to become a BAGSD qualified instructor and a BAGSD helper and is now running a branch of his own. My husband and daughter still regularly attend the Walsall branch where we still enjoy sharing our love of the German Shepherd with like minded members and taking part in training classes with our 3 German Shepherd dogs.

I was the BAGSD IGP secretary from its conception in 2008, and still sit on the IGP committee and am actively involved in organizing IGP events both at branch and National level every year ever since.

I'd like to think that I am approachable and happy to help with any branch or member questions'"

Sandra Cobbold

Denise Legg

Tom Nye

Elizabeth Beaumont

“I live in South Shropshire on a mixed livestock farm. In adulthood all my early show dogs (Dobermans) were all trained and competed in Obedience and occasional Agility.

It was around the turn of the century I came across IGP (under the previous name Schutzhund) and I spent my early years learning the craft at NE SCH Club, under the banner of the Old British Schutzhund Association. I have trained several dogs to IGP3 and have put approximately 6 dogs trough the BH test. I currently have 2 Belgian Shepherds (Malinois) with an IGP3 and IGP2 respectively.

I have run the East Cleveland BAGSD branch for over 10 years and have run many events, but we specifically do our best to help beginners and newcomers into the sport, and I currently am the Chairman for the IGP part of BAGSD, and have been in this role for the last 7 years"

Dave Napper (co-opted)

Elections

All members of the British Association for German Shepherd Dogs are eligible to stand for committee positions. Of course, a lot of the same faces are seen on the Committee from year to year, and that is partly because the jobs need some experience, and partly because the members of Committee enjoy what they do. However, we are always looking for new people to join the Committee, not least because one day they will have to take over some of the ‘big jobs’!

So, the Committee welcomes new people to join its ranks to share their skills to help the Association prosper!

During the weeks before the AGM, all members will be asked for any ideas or thought they have for the Association to be proposed, and for any nominations for the EC. To be nominated you need to be a member of the Association for a minimum of 5 years, and to have a proposer and seconder, both also members of the Association. Any contested positions will be elected by ballot from those present and eligible to vote at the AGM.

Positions within the EC are voted on by the elected members of the EC for that year at a meeting directly after the AGM.

Meetings

The Committee meets regularly, normally approximately every 6 weeks.
